Chase Junghans attends I-80 Nationals
Thursday night found Chase Junghans in action at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Neb.) for the I-80 Nationals, the three-day weekend replacing the annual Knoxville Nationals due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Drawing 46 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Chase timed in sixth fastest in his qualifying group before placing second in his heat behind Brandon Overton. With $7,000 on the line in the feature, Junghans slipped back to a 17th place outing in the 30-lap affair. (Todd Boyd photo)
Returning on Friday afternoon, Junghans secured his spot into the $7,000-to-win preliminary feature with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Tyler Erb. Dropping six spots in the 30-lapper, Chase recorded a 16th place finish.
With his preliminary finishes on Thursday and Friday positioning him 16th on the starting grid for the Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win I-80 Nationals, Chase was an early retiree from the 80-lap finale on lap 49. He was credited with a 23rd place outing.
