Fifth-place finish in Intercontinental Classic opener
With the 50th annual World 100 getting postponed to 2021, Chase Junghans was one of 48 Late Models invited to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday evening to kick off the Intercontinental Classic. Following the 15th fastest lap overall in time trials, Junghans posted a third place finish in his heat, which positioned him 10th on the starting grid for the opening night feature. With $10,000 on the line, Chase muscled forward five spots in the 30-lapper to place fifth behind Josh Richards, Brandon Overton, Ricky Weiss, and Tim McCreadie. (Zach Yost photos)
The following night for another $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Chase dropped two spots in his heat race to log an eighth place finish. Needing a third place finish or better in his B-Main to make the A-Main, Junghans posted a sixth place outing.
With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday setting the grid for the heat races on Saturday, Junghans rolled off on the pole of his heat. Grabbing the fourth and final transfer spot, Chase locked into the 14th-starting position for the $50,000-to-win Intercontinental Classic. Marching forward six spots in the 67-lap affair, Chase Junghans scored an eighth place finish.
