Junghans Passes 18 Cars in Round Three of WWS
For the third round of the Wild West Shootout on Wednesday evening at FK Rod Ends Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona), Chase Junghans slipped back to a 7th place finish in his heat transferring him into the B-Main. Grabbing the 4th and final transfer position, Junghans locked into the 23rd-starting position for the A-Main. Wheeling his way into the Top-5, Chase improved 18 spots to register a 5th place finish behind Brandon Sheppard, Jimmy Mars, Ricky Weiss, and Brian Shirley. (Mike Ruefer photos)
Returning to action on Friday afternoon, Junghans followed up the third fastest lap in his time trial group with a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Ricky Weiss. Starting the $5,000-to-win A-Main in sixth, Chase fell two spots in the 25-lapper to record a 8th place finish.
On Saturday evening for the fifth round, Chase jumped up two spots in his heat to capture the 8-lap heat race victory. Receiving the pole position for the A-Main via the redraw, Junghans suffered a flat right-rear tire while running in 3rd in lap 38 that sent him pitside.
Wrapping up the 14th annual Wild West Shootout on Sunday, Junghans secured his spot into the $15,000-to-win finale with a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Cade Dillard. Starting in fifth, Chase Junghans dropped two spots in the 50-lap affair to place 7th.
