Junghans attends Show-Me 100 weekend at Wheatland
After Mother Nature shifted Thursday’s event to Friday afternoon, Chase Junghans kicked off his Memorial Day weekend on Friday at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the Cowboy Classic. Drawing 58 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Junghans posted a seventh-place finish in his heat race, sending him into the B-Main for another shot at the $6,000-to-win preliminary feature. Later Friday evening for the Tribute to Don & Billie Gibson, Chase clocked in fourth fastest in his qualifying group before placing second in his heat race behind Brian Shirley. Starting the preliminary feature in seventh, Junghans got caught in a turn-one tangle on lap 27 while battling for eighth that ended his night immediately.
With preliminary results on Friday pinning him fifth on the starting grid for his B-Main on Saturday, Junghans fell short of a transfer position with a sixth-place finish. With the Midwest Sheet Metal Show-Me Challenge giving the race winner a $2,500 payday or the option to start at the tail of the $30,000-to-win Show-Me 100, Chase came one spot short with a second-place finish behind Chad Simpson.
