Chase Junghans returns to Volusia for DIRTcar Nationals

On Monday afternoon, Chase Junghans was one of 51 Late Models on hand at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) for the opening round of the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals. After coming one spot shy of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place finish, Junghans scored a runner-up finish in his B-Main behind David Breazeale, which positioned him 22nd on the starting grid for the opening night feature. The following night, Chase finished in sixth in his heat race, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the $7,000-to-win A-Main. Needing to place second or better to make the show, Junghans fell short with a fifth-place outing.

In a field of 51 cars on Wednesday night as the remainder of the weekend shifted under the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series banner, Junghans failed to transfer out of his heat race and B-Main, forcing him to rely on a provisional into the A-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Chase improved six spots in the 40-lapper to place 24th.

On Thursday evening, Chase fell one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place finish, transferring him into the B-Main. With the field reduced to 38 cars on Friday night, Junghans followed up a sixth place finish in his heat with a fourth place outing in his B-Main. Earning a provisional into the show, Chase passed nine cars to finish 17th.
