Chase Junghans
18th-place finish in Winternationals opener at East Bay
Chase Junghans followed the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) to East Bay Raceway Park (Tampa, Fla.) on Monday afternoon for the opening round of the Wrisco Winternationals. With 76 Late Models checked in for the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature, Junghans followed up the fifth fastest lap in his time trial group with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Tanner English. Falling short of a Top-10 finish in the caution-plagued 30-lap feature, Chase slipped back to an 18th-place outing. (Heath Lawson photo)
The following night, Chase came in 11th in his heat race, giving him one final shot at the A-Main with a B-Main appearance. Needing to place second or better, Junghans posted a ninth-place finish.
For the third round of the Wrisco Winternationals, Junghans edged his way into the $7,000-to-win A-Main with the third and final transfer position in his heat race.
After Mother Nature postponed the feature to late Thursday evening, Chase was an early retiree from the 40-lapper in the waning laps after getting caught in a multi-car tangle.
For Thursday night’s full program, Junghans had to resort to a provisional into the show after failing to transfer out of his heat race and B-Main. With $7,000 on the line, Chase was the first retiree of the race on the 13th lap.
On Friday evening, Chase came in 12th in his heat before scratching from his B-Main. Using a provisional into the $12,000-to-win A-Main, Junghans got in a wreck late in the 40-lap affair that brought an immediate end to his night. He walked away unharmed.
Wrapping up the 45th annual Wrisco Winternationals on Saturday, Junghans ran into mechanical issues early in his heat that saw him scratch from the remainder of the evening.
